Stepping through a wooden Bali-style gateway guests are greeted  by a 14m swimming pool (a pool fence is available) around two sides of which are a pair of two-storey pavilions. One pavilion houses the villa’s common areas – the living/dining room and kitchen – and the other its four spacious bedrooms.     

Villa Windu Sari’s imposing combined living and dining area is open-sided and cooled by powerful ceiling fans (no air-conditioning); two steps descend from here to swimming pool and surrounding terrace. Elegant light fittings reach rup into the vaulted ceiling, while comfortable sofas and a teak dining table which can be extended to seat 20 make this the room the social hub of the villa. Set behind is the modern functional kitchen.

Upstairs is the villa’s entertainment hub: an extremely comfortable air-conditioned sitting room with a 52-inch flat-screen, satellite-channel TV and DVD player, soft upholstered sofas and easy chairs. Across a small sun terrace is an air-conditioned gymnasium with top-of-the-range, well-maintained equipment.

Each bedroom features sliding glass doors, teak shutters, wooden flooring and an ensuite bathroom. Fully air-conditioned and equipped with 32-inch cable channel TVs, the rooms are adorned with different shades of Jim Thompson fabrics, which make up the richly coloured cushion covers and the yielding wall panels behind the beds. Located upstairs, the king-bedded master suite affords views of the neighbouring patchwork of villas; one remaining grassy field gives guests a taste of the villa’s former rural setting. The master and the other upstairs bedroom (both king-bedded, convertible to twin) share a long balcony overlooking the villa and surrounding area. One of the downstairs bedrooms is furnished with twin beds (convertible to a king), the other with a king-size bed. All of the bathrooms have bathtubs and rain showers except the downstairs king, which instead has two showers. The downstairs bathrooms are both open air, adding yet more to the tropical experience.
