Five of the six bedrooms, the dining room, a chill-out room, and the massive kitchen are organised in a horseshoe behind a central living pavilion. Open-sided and breezy the pavilion has comfortable seating and a huge projection screen. Conveniently next to the kitchen, the dining room, also open-sided, has a 16-seater dining table and can be romantically lit with candles set into small alcoves. When the heat of the day gets too much, an air-conditioned chill-out room is the perfect retreat for a PlayStation marathon on the 42 inch flat screen TV.

Each of the air-conditioned bedrooms echoes a different theme. On the ground floor of the main two-storey sleeping pavilion are the red and black Chinese Room with queen bed, and the twin-bedded Oyster Room in blue. In the adjacent building, the king-bedded Frangipani Room in yellow, and the orange-accented Hibiscus Room with twin beds, both face out to the garden, while the stand-alone green-themed Sepoi Sepoi Room nearer the beach has a king bed. Each of these bedrooms has large indoor/outdoor bathrooms with bathtubs and walk-in showers, and additional showers in their ‘gardens’. The Oyster and Hibiscus Rooms both have trundle beds beneath each of the twins. A further pull-out bed and two cots bring the potential total occupancy to 19.

The room truly worth fighting over is the Gold Room, a 100sqm suite occupying the entire upper floor of the main sleeping pavilion. It is a triumph of design that provides space, but also intimacy. There is a generous dressing area, an office, a massage bed and a massive bedroom with an organza-shrouded, four-poster king bed, views of the ocean and an outside terrace you could hold a party on. A standalone tub sits in the centre of the large bathroom, complete with canopy, here wooden sliding doors open to reveal a bamboo grove and coconut plantation.

Around the 20m pool is a cabana style beach bar and a small shady bale all with superb views down the expansive lawn to the sea and the sun-soaked Gili Isles a short distance offshore.
