Villa Kakatua blends traditional Balinese architecture with modern comfort across its four separate structures, including the poolside
balé and dining
balé, both set within the beautifully maintained garden. A larger pavilion is home to two guest bedrooms while the main pavilion houses the kitchen, living area and two master bedrooms. Of course you’ll need an umbrella to get from one to another should you be staying during the rainy season, but this pavilion-based, open-air living really does typify Bali style. Antique wooden furniture and carvings are tastefully arranged throughout, including a cabinet in the living area hiding a TV with satellite channels and DVD player, along with a stereo system. Two sets of traditional Balinese wood doors lead from here into the master bedroom and the kitchen, which has been recently renovated with new facilities and appliances throughout. The master bedroom’s four-poster queen bed looks out through patio doors onto the garden while the room itself is equipped with a small television and DVD player as well as a charming outdoor bathroom. Here a standing shower and terrazzo bathtub enjoy views of the star lit night sky. An open staircase zigzags from the living area up to a second bedroom identical to its twin below except with full-length sliding windows opening onto the garden and a smaller, enclosed ensuite with a standing shower. The dining
balé houses an antique dining table with long benches (seats eight) and, beyond this, a veranda, complete with sofas, table and chairs, fronts the two guest bedrooms. The first is nicely decorated with a queen four-poster bed, a larger television than in the other bedrooms, DVD player and iPod dock. Its ensuite is open air with a standing shower only, as is the ensuite next door in the second guest bedroom. This room boasts the biggest bed in Bali! Two double mattresses are placed side by side within a beautiful antique wood frame. The bed almost entirely fills the room and makes it ideal as a children’s dormitory. All the bedrooms at Kakatua are air-conditioned.
