Very few villas can boast a 60-metre frontage onto the gently shelving golden sands for which Bali’s popular resort village of Sanur is famed. This is traditional Bali-style tropical living at its best, with five one- and two-storey
alang-alang thatched pavilions all oriented for spectacular sea views across the Lombok Strait towards the islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan rising on the horizon.
The villa’s social heart is the huge open-sided living pavilion bordering the beach. Cooled by the sea breeze and whirling overhead fans, this elegant space is divided into two sections: a generous seating area with traditional daybed and contemporary sofas and chairs clustered around a large coffee table crafted from an antique panel, and a dining area dominated by a large teakwood table with marble top and ‘lazy susan’. Across the lotus pond is a separate pavilion housing the well-equipped kitchen where the staff prepare meals from an extensive suggestion menu.
Across the 10-metre pool and lying just as close to the beach is the master pavilion. This magnificent space is a tour de force, with a stunning wall of elaborately carved teakwood panels, an air-conditioned bedroom with large sitting area overlooking a waterfall-fed pool, and a river-stone courtyard with black terrazzo jacuzzi and alfresco shower. The bathroom is also air-conditioned, and there is a separate dressing room. Facing the sea is a long shaded veranda with seating, and steps to a raised bale by the pond.
Four air-conditioned guest suites full of colonial-style character and charm are housed in a pair of two-storey pavilions gazing across the pool towards the ocean. The two garden-level suites feature poolside verandas while the upper suites, which are accessed by external stairs, enjoy uninterrupted ocean vistas. All four have dressing areas and air-conditioned bathrooms with alfresco courtyard showers (and bathtubs in the two downstairs).
