Villa Adasa is an intelligently stylish interpretation of traditional Bali architecture. Within its neat walled compound and arranged around the swimming pool are three adjoining buildings. Furthest from the entrance is the two-storey bedroom wing; to the right is the huge living pavilion with
alang-alang (thatched) vaulted roof, and along the entrance wall is the kitchen and staff quarters.
Opening directly onto the pool area are two good-sized guest bedrooms, each with a comfortable king bed (which can be split into twins), well-chosen furniture, HD TV, dressing area with loads of wardrobe space, and handsome sandstone bathroom with rain shower beside an indoor garden of towering palms. The glamorous master bedroom spreads across the entire second floor, and includes a dressing and seating area with HD TV and Bose sound system. Full-length louvred doors of whitewashed Meranti wood open onto a terrace where a built-in daybed and seating look westwards over the pool, past palms and towards the sea – the perfect spot to admire Bali’s famed sunsets. You can enjoy this same view from the terrazzo tub in the ensuite bathroom or, on a clear day, gaze on the sacred peak, Gunung Agung, in the distance while taking a shower.
The 80sqm living pavilion is a magnificent space, with plush cream sofas and chairs artfully grouped to create different seating areas. Reflected in a massive antique mirror is a handsome dining table with eight wicker armchairs. Adjoining the pavilion is the pristine galley kitchen packed with culinary gadgets, and a reclaimed teakwood countertop with sliding hatch that acts as a poolside bar. Sun loungers shaded by parasols line the pool, beyond which is the double
balé awash with squidgy cushions for reclining in sultan-like comfort. And in one final flourish of space-creating brilliance, stairs from the corner lead to a small second-level terrace with pool shower, for private sunbathing, yoga or meditation.
